(New York City)  -- Governor James E. McGreevey along with New York Governor George E. Pataki, today proposed re-naming Newark International Airport, “Liberty International Airport at Newark.”

 

The Governors made the announcement during the unveiling of plans for a state-of-the-art viewing wall at Ground Zero that will permit visitors to both pay their respects and safely view the World Trade Center site.

 

“The events of September 11^th shattered our domestic tranquility and threatened us all,” said McGreevey. “Governor Pataki and I agree that it would be appropriate to commemorate the memory of the heroes of that day by this proposed name-change for Newark International Airport.”

 

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversee Newark Airport, will review the Governors’ proposal.
